Player Highlight: Dedrick Welch

Dedrick Welsh has been playing on Liberty’s Football team since freshman year he has come a long way, so much that he has won the player of the week of the advocate of the week on 9/18.I caught up with the player to get his insight on his big win.

How do you prepare mentally for for big games?

I'm not a person that finds pleasure in talking trash so before the game i’d drown out all the noise i hear and really lock in to envision me making plays and focusing on my opponent.

 

Who or what motivates you to perform at your best?

I feel like the artist Nipsey Hussel motivates me the most before games because the message he portrays in most of his music embodies staying down and working,so I feel like I really relate to that.

 

What are your thoughts on upcoming games?

Looking into the next two games I feel like we need to win and establish some momentum going into district.

 

What does receiving player of the week recognition mean to you personally?

Personally I feel like it's a great acknowledgement of the work I put in and I appreciate being nominated on the platform.

 

What was your mindset going into the game that earned you player of the week?

My mindset wasn't even on having a big game.It was really just a shake-back because of the recent loss we had.We left a lot on the field that previous game so I wanted to leave that game knowing I did all that I could.

 

What specific achievements or moments during the game that contributed to your player of the week recognition?

I feel like the 5 touchdowns opened many eyes and the 205 rushing yards solidified the performance.

 

Dedrick has come a long way from freshman year to now.He has achieved a lot and the player of the week only solidified how hard he has worked.
