Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link OPINION: Beyonce Deserved the Grammy By Mairi Martin Billie Eillish did have a great album with some great songs, so I am not discrediting her not one bit. I have played “Wildflower” and “Birds of a Feather” by her numerous times on repeat--I understand the hype. However, “Cowboy Carter” had a much greater success than “Hit Me Hard and Soft”. To be fair, the two songs I previously named were the only two songs that I heard on the album. I feel like two songs shouldn’t determine a Grammy. They were great, yes, but not as commercially successful as Beyonces’. “Cowboy Carter” got Beyonce a halftime show at the football game. One of her songs, “LEVI'S JEANS” was featured in a Levi commercial (with Beyonce as a special guest). “16 CARRIAGES” went viral on social media for weeks. “TEXAS HOLD EM’” also went viral worldwide, becoming a catchy and upbeat song that millions loved. Those were just half of the songs that had amazing success. It’s all in the charts. Billies’ album was beautiful, but in the music industry, success throughout the entire industry, not just music, will win you a Grammy. comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment.

Senior Year Poem by Leanne Kirst This poem is about how society is like as a senior in high school. It captured the anxiety of kids trying to figure out their lives in their final days of school. In crowded halls and shifting trends, A senior navigates, time bends, Balancing the moments they can't rewind, With dreams that flicker in their mind. Social scenes and endless tests, Finding time for self, for rest. A would of choices paths unclear, They chase a future, hold it near. In laughter shared and late-night talks, In dreams and fears, in midnight walks, They grasp for life with all their might, Trying to live through day and night

College Fair Darmicia W. & Zoe B. October 24, 2024 On October 15th, 2024 Liberty Magnet had about 10 colleges come to the school and speak to the seniors. The colleges were BRCC, Fran U, La Tech, La Christian College, LSU, LSUA, Nicholls State University, Northwestern State University, Southeastern, SU TOP Jag, Southern University, ULL, La Army National Guard, and Aveda. The schools ambassadors came and spoke to any Liberty Magnet high school students who may have had some interest in attending their colleges later on in life. They gave out informative papers, merch, pens, plus more. Students were separated into two groups by last name. Group 1 was A-I and group 2 was J-Z. Students were allowed to leave class for 45 minutes between 1st and 2nd lunch to freely walk around and visit each table. It was a good and convenient way for students to explore different colleges if they weren’t able to make it to the college fair that was held at BRCC october 7th. The ambassadors were very eager to talk to each and every student that crossed their threshold, and it was an overall great experience for seniors students to participate in.

Campaign Day Darmicia W September 23, 2024 On September 18th Liberty Magnet high school hosted their campaign event for those who were running for different positions such as ms/mr freshman, sophomore, junior, and mr/ms Liberty. This day was a great day for students, because it happened to be an early dismissal day as well. Campaign time lasted from 10:11 to 11:00, and everyone enjoyed themselves. There were different treats from each campaigner like chips, candy, juice, and even more extraordinary things like chicken and waffles, spicy bowls, and even chocolate covered strawberries. We even had a well known rapper that came out and supported one of the candidates, SNUG. Students have gone through weeks of posting flyers all over the school and making instagram posts to convince students to vote for them. On campaign day lots of snacks, foods, and items were given out to leave a good impression and gain students' vote! The official vote will be held Friday September 20th. After the 9-12th results are revealed the school will then vote for Mr. and Mrs. Liberty.

Clubs Throughout the Years by Akeelaha Scott September 27, 2024 What's going on with clubs this year? That's the big question on everyone's mind—from students to teachers. While answers may still be up in the air, we took the initiative to ask some seniors what clubs they'd like to see, what they hope to achieve, and how they'd rate the ones they've been part of in the past. Over the years, students have been able to experience a wide variety of clubs, with some even creating their own if they could find a sponsor. However, the journey hasn’t always been smooth. Freshman year saw no in-school clubs, only after-school ones. Sophomore year offered few options, leaving students who weren’t interested in clubs sitting in study hall. By junior year, things were smoother, though some students were placed in clubs they didn’t sign up for. We spoke to seniors about their thoughts on clubs, and most agreed: improvement is needed. Remaya Bell shared her candid thoughts: Food club: “0/10. We didn’t eat; we just sat there.” Young Filmmakers: “10/10. Mr. Musgrow was over it, so I really enjoyed it.” A real Food club: “I'm hungry, and I like to eat.” Letting us know that she plans to rejoin the club if it is better organized, lives up to its potential, and active. Kyleigh Crooper had her own take on other clubs: Beta Club: “1/10. The teacher tried, but it didn’t work out. Deadlines weren’t met or set in place.” Key Club: “10/10. It offers many opportunities to get community service hours for graduation. I LOVE the teachers over it—Mr. Mitchell and Mrs. Mash.” Korean Culture Club: “9.5/10. I learned about Ms. Wicker and her travels abroad, and we played Korean games like Chicken Fight.” The Refurbished Korean Culture Club: “There’s a lot more you can pull from it.” Kyleigh's opinion let us know that she looks for well organized clubs where the sponsors are strong-willed and stand in what they set. Ajhani Wright wants a change: Chick-fil-a club: This year he wants to help serve the community along with the kids compared to previous years where he’s only been in clubs that just sit around. Alexi Lewis loves learning about culture: Caribbean Culture Club: This club doesn‘t exist yet but she hopes it gets created and can “teach people about culture, food, holidays, traditions.” Finally, Khang Tran didn’t have much to say but expressed excitement to join Beta Club this year, “ looking forward to serving the community. While seniors had mixed experiences, they remain hopeful that clubs this year will live up to their potential and offer more engaging, meaningful activities.

The Hopeless Romantic by Anonymous January 31, 2025 Seniors are on the verge of starting a new chapter in their lives, because of this students are especially reflective of the past and the memories they will never forget. This poem by an anonymous student tries to capture how time passes so fluidly and how hard it can be at times to hold on to hope. The best moments sneak in the side door More real than the thrills we chase Like a cat It comes in its own time. The best whispers in your ear Distinct, soft, and ordinary The rear view always calls It has a current Begging for closure But makes no promises A thread could be loose forever And you drive on perpetually But to abandon hope, relinquish the idea of quiet joy It is inexcusable. How could we give up on the very thing that drives us? To succumb- abandon the most romantic of endeavors It is inexcusable.
