Inclusion in the classroom means that all children, no matter their racial, religious, or ethnic background, gender, learning style, or ability have equal access to educational opportunities in a learning environment where all students are equally safe, valued, and respected.

Inclusion in the classroom means that all children, no matter their racial, religious, or ethnic background, gender, learning style, or ability have equal access to educational opportunities in a learning environment where all students are equally safe, valued, and respected. Inclusion in the classroom means making sure all students feel seen and don’t feel excluded. It doesn’t have to just be in the classroom but just in the school in general. Not only teachers but students as well can come together as a whole to make sure that their classmates feel included. Now it’s really not the student’s job to do that but I believe that everyone getting along in a classroom can make the class more enjoyable and interesting. You don’t have to befriend them but you can make them feel included.

I interviewed my friend Tyren Moore who goes here at Liberty Magnet High School. He is in 12th grade and he sometimes feels left out of things even while being around his own friends. I asked him “How can we create a more inclusive environment for students from different cultural backgrounds?”. Tyren said “ I believe that we can create a more inclusive environment for students from different cultural backgrounds by making sure everyone feels appreciated. Yes, as this school we have an African American History class but I believe we should have at least clubs for people of different races and cultures.”
