The new Wuthering Heights movie is coming out, and people are not too happy about it.

Published in 1847 and written by Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights is an iconic novel that follows the story of Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw.

The story begins when Heathcliff, a dark-skinned orphan, is adopted by Mr. Earnshaw, Catherine’s father. The two develop a passionate bond. After Catherine marries Edgar Linton, Heathcliff leaves and later returns wealthy, determined to take cruel revenge on the Earnshaw and Linton families before his death.

This is one of my favorite books I have ever read. It is such a beautiful story, and seeing what it is becoming as a movie has made me upset. From the looks of it, the teaser focuses more on intense and uncomfortable imagery rather than the gothic atmosphere the novel originally had. The plot feels oversexualized, even though it was originally written as a tragic and dark love story.

Additionally, Jacob Elordi being cast as Heathcliff, despite the character being described as dark-skinned, does not make sense to many readers. The entire movie looks like a mess and does not seem true to the book.

Will I watch it? Yes. However, will I like it? Probably not.
