As of right now, it seems like the basketball team is getting most of the attention. But there are other sports at our school, like soccer, volleyball, track and field that work just as hard and bring pride to our school. Every sport at Liberty is putting in tons of effort and a lot of dedicated hours to not only make a name for themselves but make history for Liberty High School. But they don't have the support system that they should, just family and teammates coming together and cheering. Not only supporting one person, but the team as a unit. By supporting more sports, we would be acknowledging their efforts and dedication. Theatre Club by Brooklyn Patterson September 27, 2024 Credit: Capitol One Hall Today, we interviewed Ms.Rodriguez who is sponsoring the theater club and also teaches theater class. She gave us a few details on what to expect and what’s to come in the near future. She let us in on things like the ideas for many projects coming up, fundraisers, events and many more. According to her, our first theater production will be chosen between Shrek the Musical and Hairspray. She mentions taking a liking to Shrek and I can’t help but agree. Maybe I'll try out to be the donkey. Ms.Rodriguez did inform us that she wanted to expand this club and make it more competitive. Also that this club would be an intro to theater for those who didn’t or couldn’t actually take the class. Hopefully, we will soon be able to see the great works to come from her and the theater club.

The Hourglass By Isabelle Kennedy This poem comments on the fact that time is fleeting and how we spend it is up to us. It questions what we will be left with and what we'll be remembered for when our time is up. We have a possession, a gift But we’re losing it, every second it’s wasting away We take for granted what time we have squander it with ways to let it pass. We give our time to idle things making no difference in our lives a finite resource that’s slipping through our fingers Dripping down an hourglass as we speak, grains falling one by one Rustling against each other as it falls down the infinite abyss of time. When we’re young, we wish to be older. time goes on, we forget to appreciate, To relish each moment, each detail. we’ll age and regret our times misspent reliving the few moments appreciated most. Time is relative, some might say, but in the end, our days have been numbered And one day we’ll be out of our precious, relative time. When our final moments come, when every short fleeting breath could be our last, we’ll wonder if we made the most of our lives, made a difference to the ones around us, Will anyone remember us in the years that we will never see? We are just a speck of dust in this universe, in the infinite timeline of life’s history it always keeps moving forward. indifferent to the events, never slowing down, never speeding up. continues to push us forward each second, every minute spent is gone forever, never coming back. Time moves forward, never looking behind. one moment never seen again. I want to look back on my final moments and be proud of what I've done, what I’ve experienced because life is too short to be spent recklessly. Now, I don’t know if my final moments are tomorrow, next year, or 50 years away and I don’t know if I’ll make any difference in the world with the words I say, but I do know I want to take in and savor each morning rain, each bird that flies, each grain of sand on a windy beach at sunrise. I want to remember every person I meet, and every day I spend. Each moment I have could be my last and I don’t intend to have many regrets on my deathbed when I pass. Because the last shadow, the last ripple you make in the stream of time is how people remember you. A reputation is all that will remain of who you were and what you stood for. So keep it, maintain it, and tweak it while you can. It’s the only thing you’ll keep forever because time runs out, moments fade, and lives will pass, but as they say: a reputation is all a man has.

Latin Club by Isabelle Kennedy The influence of ancient civilizations is all around us in modern times. From architecture to language and storytelling, ancient Greek and Roman cultures have enriched the world in countless ways. Many do not know how deep today’s culture is rooted in Greek and Latin. Mrs. Norton has strived to raise such awareness through the Latin club. She states that teaching Latin felt natural to her with her background, “While I was working on my Master's Degree at Florida State, I began tutoring undergraduate students in Latin and gradually began to feel the pull toward teaching. So it was a pretty fluid transition.” Besides learning the language, the Latin Club also competes on a local and national level. They compete in the Junior Classical League convention with other students in the state and they attend the National Junior Classical League, competing against other states. Besides these competitions, Latin students also attend an out of state convention that will be held at Miami University in Oxford, OH. The JCL teacher also hopes to plan events to help fundraise for the convention and find ways to serve the community. Even for students not in the club, Mrs. Norton points out that learning some of the language can be beneficial. By learning some of the Latin and Greek roots of words, students can increase their vocabulary, proving to be a useful aid in ACT’s and SAT’s. She enjoys seeing students grow in their understanding, “It's always fun introducing larger SAT/ACT words to younger students and watching them figure out the definition on their own based on their knowledge of the vocabulary.” There are many aspects of Roman culture that can appeal to all sorts of people. Mrs. Norton states, “Personally, I am a big fan of their epic literature and mythology such as, “Ovid's Metamorphoses”, which includes a bunch of variations of common myths, and “Vergil's Aeneid”, which is the epic equivalent to “Homer's Iliad” and “Odyssey” within the Greek culture.” The Latin teacher acknowledges that students may not remember much about Latin and Greek after highschool, but she does hope that “They remember the various contributions of the Romans, they can further contribute to their society both by following the Romans' lead,” and acknowledge “the contributions or actions that should be avoided,”. Much can be learned from these ancient civilizations, having both good and bad examples. Whether students decide to learn more about Greek or Roman culture, no one can deny its effect on life today, which is why there is such an importance of having a Latin club within schools.

Dual Enrollment Test Darmicia W. December 9, 2024 This week has been very eventful for Dual enrollment students. We have had tests for history classes, math classes, and english classes as well. Monday, English classes took their dual enrollment test, mostly sophomores, and it lasted about 2-3 hours and took place in the cafeteria. Tuesday, the math dual enrollment students took their test, and it was the same process, they took their test in the cafeteria and it lasted about 3-3 hours. Today, Wednesday, history students are taking their test, and they were encouraged with an incentive. Those who make a mastery or advanced on their test get to get a free trip to New Orleans to tour colleges. Hopefully, all students have done well on their test. And as always Geaux Patriots!

About Chic-fil-a club By. Elizabeth Lennox September 5,2024 Chick-fil-a club is both an A day and B day club, it also consists of after school meetings about once a month. This club takes a lot of commitment and time management so if you want to join you have to be on point. This club consists of 30 members and is run by Ms. Devitt. Look for signs!!! If you would like to join there will be signs posted around the school starting in September. Although you apply to the club through the school you will still have to apply through the Chick-fil-a website. Don’t get your hopes high thinking they’ll be chick-fil-a every meeting. The purpose of this club is to train young leaders in the community to become servant leaders. Servant leaders are people who make their way to the top but still help all the people below them, no matter their status. There is a video training once a month to keep up with the responsibility and upkeep with the club. The club consists of 3 events throughout the year. In September they host a book giveaway to the elementary kids. In December a service project that is TBD at this moment. In the Spring they set up a huge eventful fair for the elementary schools to participate in.

Horror Fest By Leanne Kirst The LMHS Theater department is hosting the first annual Fest Saturday at 6pm in the blackbox. Tickets are $10 per person. This event is open to everyone. The theme for this spooky event is the bayou. "Out audiences can expect to enjoy a haunted house, costume contest, and various more acts from theater, dance, and more!" Says theater teacher Ms. Rodriguez. You can purchase your tickets online or at the door. This event helps raise money for the theater department so that they can fund for more production and just over all continue to grow.

Food Truck Friday Delay by Darmicia Williams January 16, 2025 As of right now Liberty Magnet High Schools annual food truck Friday has been cancelled and moved to another date. Unfortunately, the day it was supposed to be held there was speculated to be heavy rain and extremely cold weather. The principal at LMHS decided that it would be postponed to Jan 24th, 2025. Fortunately for the liberty magnet students we will be having a club day to make up for the postponed day. As you know, the usual food you’ll see are wings, slushies, drinks, icecream, snow cones, fries, etc. Here’s a quick Q&A from Claniya Olinde when asked how she felt about the cancellation: “How did you feel about Food Truck Friday being pushed back to a later date?” “I was disappointed at first, but then I didn’t really care because I never make it quick enough to the lines to get food anyway.” Overall, it is and will continue to be a great day to be patriot.
